Care basics
The Mayan cichlid is a hardy fish of swamps, lagoons and mangroves. It has a dark spot near the tail and can live in fresh or brackish water.
It needs a big tank with lots of swimming room and stable rocks and wood. Tank mates should be medium to large, robust fish.
