Care basics
The keyhole cichlid is named for the dark, keyhole shaped mark on each side of its body. It is one of the gentlest cichlids in the hobby, and most fish on sale are farm raised.
Give it plenty of cover from plants, wood and caves, and keep it with calm schooling fish such as tetras, which help it feel safe. Clean, stable water matters, so keep up with regular water changes.
